The collection consists of the legal papers, correspondence, publications and clippings of the Jewish Defense League (JDL), and correspondence and financial materials of the Jewish Operation Youth, a subunit of the JDL that conducted activities for youth. The legal materials cover several important JDL cases, in which the defendants were active members of the JDL and were defended by the organization's legal counsel Barry Zweibon. The JDL correspondence contains letters from supporters and critics, reports of events, requests for donations, acknowledgments of contributions, and responses from political figures to the JDL's invitation to the 100-Hour Vigil for Soviet Jewry (1969). The collection includes typescript material such as sermons delivered about the JDL, a report on the New York City poverty program and the Jewish poor, and articles by Bertram (Barry) Zweibon. Records of the Jewish Operation Youth include the sub-organization's articles of incorporation, bank statements, and some financial and legal material. Other miscellaneous JDL materials consist of press releases, newspaper clippings, local JDL bulletins and two issues of Iton, the JDL's international publication.
